IDEAS ON SOLIDARITY

During the course of The State of the Union 2018, a number of keynote speeches were given by Heads of State, Presidents of EU Institutions and leading academics on the topic of Solidarity in Europe. The full text of each of these speeches a can be found in their original language on the ‘Keynote Speeches’ page.

As part of The State of the Union 2018, the EUI also collaborated with YouGov to draw on the power of surveys to deepen our understanding on the topic of Solidarity in Europe. YouGov polled Europeans in 11 EU countries to find out what Europe thinks about solidarity. The results of the survey were later analysed by Professor Philipp Genschel and Professor Anton Hemerijck who subsequently produced a policy brief. Read the policy brief and explore the results yourself, to find out what Europe thinks about solidarity.

Similarly, the debate on Solidarity in Europe was further underpinned by data and analysis provided by The State of the Union partner GlobalStat. As part of this collaboration, GlobalStat produced a short video on Solidarity in Europe, as well as both a ‘data dossier’ on Solidarity in Europe and a ‘mini dossier’ on Solidarity toward Asylum Seekers and Refugees. Together, this can help us understand what defines solidarity in Europe.
