GlobalStat, based at the EUI’s Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies, is a database of publicly available information on developments in a globalised world. Accounting for the multi-dimensional and multi-level nature of globalisation, it presents data on a wide range of topics and from a broad range of international statistical resources. As a data gateway it offers statistical information on globalisation, sustainability and human development. Focusing on the economic, environmental, political, social, societal and cultural performance of nations in this way, GlobalStat supports a ‘beyond GDP perspective’ on globalisation and ultimately aims at informing about the way human beings live, the freedoms they enjoy and the limitations they face.In close cooperation with various partners, GlobalStat has created two documents for The State of the Union 2018.
Data Dossier: Solidarity in Europe
The main Data Dossier on ‘Solidarity in Europe’ offers key statistics and data visualisations on each of the six topics of the EUI’s The State of the Union 2018 conference to provide a first insight into each area, namely Economic, Monetary and Fiscal Policies; Social Investment; European Defence and Security; Migration; Climate Change and Energy; and Development. The contents and data narrative have been conceptualised and written by the GlobalStat team. Based on this, Christian Dietrich, a freelancing graphic designer, has developed and designed the magnificent data visualisations.
Mini Dossier: Solidarity towards asylum seekers and refugees
In 2017, GlobalStat established a cooperation with nccr – on the move, a Swiss National Center of Competence in Research based in Neuchatel. Inspired by the continuing urgency of the topic and policy area, GlobalStat and nccr-on the move also this year have decided to prepare an extra deep dive into migration as a Mini Dossier on ‘Solidarity towards refugees and asylum seekers – Understanding the impact of the refugee crisis in the EU and EFTA countries’.
