Jean-Claude Juncker

Jean-Claude Juncker – President of the European Commission, has been in politics since 1982 when he was first appointed Deputy Minister of Labour in Luxembourg at the age of 28. For almost 20 years he served as Prime Minister of Luxembourg (1995 until 2013). From 2005 until 2013, he was also President of the Eurogroup – the Ministers of Finance from the Eurozone. On 7 March 2014, Jean-Claude Juncker was elected and ran as the candidate of the European People’s Party (EPP) for the Presidency of the European Commission in the first ever Europe-wide campaign. After the European Elections in May 2014, he was proposed as candidate for President of the European Commission by the European Council on 27 June 2014 and elected by the European Parliament on 15 July 2014. His political programme is based on the social market economy and a commitment to be a President of social dialogue.
