Rainer Hermann has been an Opinion Editor at German national daily newspaper, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung since 2012. Hermann has worked as a journalist in Turkey and the Middle East for more than twenty years. As correspondent for FAZ he lived in Istanbul from 1991 until 2008, before moving to Abu Dhabi. Hermann studied economics and Middle Eastern studies in Freiburg (Germany), Rennes (France), Basel (Switzerland), and Damascus (Syria). He has an MA in economics and a PhD in Middle Eastern Studies and is the author of five books on Turkey and the Arab world. His latest book is “Final Destination Islamic State? State Failure and Religious War”.
