Supervised by a committee of influential EUI academics, the scientific content of The State of the Union 2016 is organised around the theme of “Women in Europe and the World”.
To that end, a two-pronged strategy has been devised: on the one hand, a number of key high-profile actors in politics and the law, in finance and economics, and in religious and associational life will be invited to discuss the situation of women in Europe and beyond, in a series of keynotes and round table discussions that bring together the worlds of politics and policy with those of academic research.
On the other hand, a series of panels on a number of pressing issues where a gender analysis, the key common denominator of all panels, can help to see more clearly the particular impact that these issues are having on different groups of women will also be organised.
The themes for the panels include:
- Refugees, Migration and Citizenship;
- Employment and Social Affairs;
- Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment;
- Role of Women in Conflict and Peacemaking;
- Sexual and Reproductive Politics.
