Open Day at the Historical Archives of the European Union
Awarding ceremony of the competition for an art installation “Surveillance and Democracy in Europe”
In January 2015, the Historical Archives of the European Union together with the Academy of the Arts of Drawing of Florence launched a competition for an art installation “Surveillance and Democracy in Europe”, to mark the occasion of the next “Open Day” at Villa Salviati on the 9 May 2015.
The competition aimed at selecting an artwork to be placed in Villa Salviati’s Park. The installation, in its design and realisation, must seek to convey the theme “Surveillance and Democracy in Europe” in the best possible way with respect for freedom of expression.
The project was addressed to students of the Academies of Fine Arts of Florence and Carrara, aiming at promoting their work on the European artistic scene.
Fifteen projects have been chosen by the jury as “finalists”, and, on 9 May 2015, during the “Open Day” at the Historical Archives of the European Union, the winner will be chosen.
The fifteen plastic models of the finalists will be on display until 30 June 2015 in the gardens of Villa Salviati, and a printed catalogue will feature images of the finalists’ designs, in order to provide testimony of the quality of the artists and of their artistic efforts.
