Danilo Türk is the former President of the Republic of Slovenia. He obtained his PhD from the Faculty of Law in Ljubljana. In 1991 he was the Chairman of the UN Sub Commission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities. In 1992 Dr Türk assumed the position of Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to the UN. He was President of the UN Security Council between 1998 and 1999. Later Dr. Türk was appointed Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs. His works includes over 100 articles in various law journals and three books, the latest of which is The Foundations in International Law (2007).
