The European University Institute is an international organisation exclusively committed to post-graduate and post-doctoral education programmes in the social sciences and has strong ties with the EU institutions. To conduct its activities, the EUI gathers the best professors from all over Europe and beyond, as well as a wide number of specially selected researchers and fellows.
The idea to organise the conference stems from the will to contribute to the European and international debate on governance, integration and global challenges, through a special event with qualified and plural participation and a wide resonance. Through The State of the Union, the EUI can share its scientific and organisational assets with partners and stakeholders, making Florence, once each year, the capital of Europe.
