The State of the Union 2011
The State of the Union’s first edition, was the key event of the Festival of Europe, which took place in Florence on 6th – 10th May 2011.
The conference welcomed to Florence and the European University Institute (EUI) high-level political personalities and, in particular, representatives from community institutions, national governments, heads of state, opinion leaders, prominent academics and internationally known journalists
Among the participants were: Jerzy Buzek, President of the European Parliament; Franco Frattini, Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs; Janos Martonyi, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs; Androulla Vassiliou, Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth.
Over the two days, the debate was articulated on four important topics: The Functioning of the EU after the Lisbon Treaty, Europe in the Globalised world, the Euro and the Global Economic Governance, Growth employment, Financial Stability after the Crisis.
